Brief Description
County Town and ideal centre for visiting the Sperrins. Forest walks and drives. Splendid views of Donegal through to Lough Erne. Nearby at Camphill visit the ancestral home of the Mellon Family who founded the Mellon Bank of Pittsburgh. The Ulster American Folk Park is beside the Mellon Home.
Local Area attractions
A must is a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park. See the conditions the emigrants left behind, suffered on the wooden sailing ships and the kind of life the pioneers found in the New World. Blue Grass Music Festival is held here in September.

North-west of Cookstown it is an important archaeological site. Discovery of a stone axe suggests that Neolithic people lived here.

Early Bronze Age stone circles with stone rows and cairns.
