There are portions of the Altamont that goes way back to the 1500’s. This was the time when nuns were said to have resided at the place. At around 1720, a brand new road was constructed by the landlords of Altamont - the St. George family.

The family created a newly constructed back and front avenues along with fine-looking granite access gates. They also planted some beech trees in rows to show the pathway of the old Nun’s Walk.
