Brief Description
Charming hilly historic town. Excellently preserved castle houses. The Castle dates from 1201. Fine six arch bridge over the Slaney River. Nearby is the site of the Battle of Vinegar Hill 1798. The granite St Aidan’s cathedral is dated 1843/46.

Brief Description
Third largest city in Republic on the tip of the Shannon river estuary. Settled by Vikings in 831 who where later evicted by Brian Buro. St Mary’s Cathedral begun in 1168/80. King Johns Castle from 1210 with great drum towers. Neo-gothic St John’s Cathedral from 1854.
The “Limerick” form of doggerel poem was devised in a pub in Limerick Street. Also location for the Book and film “Angela Ashes”
Local Area attractions
Good Salmon and Trout fishing. Racecourse. Two 18 hole golf courses.
