Brief Description
Town owes its foundation to monastery founded in the 6th century by St Jarlath. Has two Cathedrals. Near the town is the reputed site of 1000BC battle. Nearby Ballyhaunis has an Augustinian friary of 1641 restored in 1938

Roscommon
Brief Description
Colouful town where the Galway to Longford and Sligo to Athlone roads cross. Remains of a 1253 Dominican friary.
Ireland’s last hangwoman coyly called “ Lady Betty” is commemorated by a plaque in the 18th century jailhouse where she worked. Disused after 1822.
