Lough Erne
Brief Description
Fifty miles of navigable water sprinkled with 154 islands making up Lower and Upper Lough Erne. An area of religious settlements, castles and nature reserves among lakes teeming with fish. At Devenish Island there are remains of a monastery founded by St Molaise in 564 or 571. Also one of Irelands finest round towers 81ft high with carved cornice of faces with beards and moustaches. On Boa Island are two very pagan double sided idols

Nearby is National Trust property of Florence Court. Georgian architecture, with unorthodox rusticated external detail and fluent rococo plasterwork within. Home of the Earls of Enniskillen it is set in a Forest Park which offers challenging remote walks in the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain.

Enniskillen
Brief Description
Island town standing on the neck between Upper and Lower Lough Erne. St MacCartan’s Cathedral built in 1841. Portora Royal School attended by Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and other famous pupils.
Local Area attractions
Museums of two famous regiments – Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the Inniskilling Dragoons.
Nearby is the National Trust property at Castle Coole. Neo-classical house, the 1790 masterpiece of James Wyatt.
