Brief Description

Quiet resort west of the river Bann. Nearby at Downhill are the remains of the demesne planted by Frederick Hervey Bishop of Derry and Earl of Bristol. Well worth a visit including the fine rotunda Mussenden Temple built as a library and perched on the edge of a cliff.

Rathmullan

Brief Description

Towns stands on Lough Swilly and has the remains of a 15t century Carmelite friary.

Red Hugh O’Donnell was lured aboard a ship at Rathmullan in 1587 and taken to Dublin Castle, escaping four years later. It was also from here that the earls of Tryone and Tyrconnell fled to France in 1607.
