Brief Description
The Hill of Tara was Ireland’s royal acropolis in ancient times – the Religious, political and cultural capital.
It was a prestigious centre until the last pagan king died in the 6th century, and was the royal residence of Malachi II who died in 1002. St Patrick came here at the start of his mission. There is a modern statue of St Patrick here.
Much excavation work has be carried out in the area – it is well worth a visit.
