Brief Description
Renowned source of the Book of Kells an illuminated manuscript of the Four Gosples in Latin, produced here sometime before the year 800. St Columcille (Columba) set up a monastery here in AD550 at the invitation of King Dermot. The monastery was a favourite target for the Vikings. There 5 High Crosses in the area.
