THE IRISH POTATO

Above: Some Irish Potatoes
Majority of the Irish considers the potato as the main thing they associate with the Emerald Isle. The Irish consumes approximately more than three hundred pounds a year surpassing the United States and other countries in Europe.
This may come as a surprise since the potato was non-existent till the end of 16th century. The sever conditions that were enforced on the Irish by a pitiless English government resulted to the cultivation of the potato crop that yielded more food per acre more than anything else.
